Busyness Planning for Artists & Cultural Workers

10am – 5pm

This two day workshop, led by artists Rosalie Schweiker and Ruth Claxton, has been designed to support artists, creative practitioners and cultural workers to develop an alternative to a conventional business plan. Taking a holistic approach to practice, business, career and life development we will tackle the big questions including:

Where are you? Why are you busy? What’s your problem? What is your busyness journey? Where are you going? Where would you like to be? How do you cost work? What is your day rate? How do you negotiate? Who could you cooperate with? Who do you cooperate with? How do you vocalise your ambitions and plan to achieve them? What are your terms and conditions? Who is it for? The workshop has been designed for self employed artists, designer-makers and other creative and cultural workers.

What will you get out of it? A busyness plan, tailored to your individual needs + useful methods to get organised, refine your ideas, schedule your progress and evaluate the artistic and economic viability of your projects. We will take time to reflect and take stock and think about where we would like to be, and how we might get there. We will also explore alternative methods of networking, draft our own terms & conditions and practice saying No.

When is it? This is a two part workshop. Each day will run 10am-5pm. Participants will need to attend both sessions.

How do I book? To book a spot email steamhouse@bcu.ac.uk telling us a little bit more about yourself and your practice and why you would like to take part.

Spaces are limited and advance booking is essential. Priority will be given to self-employed sole traders and STEAMhouse members, but if we have spare spaces we may be able to support others so please get in touch.
