What does it mean to come from a seed, to start from/be returned to different places?

Move through the “vague terrain” of the dirty nails (les ongles noirs) landscape and collect tastes from different places. The food offered by artist-researcher Carmen Wong will highlight beans, legumes, and seeds, and offer contrasting textures and tastes of place and land. We will explore the ingredients on offer individually and collectively, and put together our own combinations in rice rolls. These self-assembled meals will be accompanied by contemplations on seeding, sprouting, new life, pleasure, and circular endings.

Food will be plant-based. Though we cannot cater for individual dietary requirements, Carmen will be able to advise on any food intolerances on the day.

This event is raising funds for Watermelon Relief, a group of activists on the ground in Gaza. Led by Ahmed Al-Madhoun, a community activist, and Hamada Shaqoura, a chef and activist, their team is making a difference in the lives of those affected by the war by providing essential meals. They cook a variety of dishes, including pasta, ma'adas, mujaddara, meat, rice, and various sandwiches, to meet the physical needs of the displaced citizens. Additionally, they offer vital psychological support to help them through this challenging period. Suggested donation - £5.
