Sue Tompkins (Born 1971, Leighton Buzzard. Lives and works in Glasgow.) “on a purely basic level the sound piece My Dataday was made in december2008 on a simple simple set up of a sony old fashioned flat tape recorder the sort that your old school teacher used to play things on? well maybe!,,,. i have always used tape to record things and pieces.but then with microphone attached and onto tape, i read through editing usually as i go the piece from many many notes , statements, thoughts, my notes collected and written over alonger longer periods of time. i think the key is the distance, time away from it all.and the fact its recording and recorded sitting on the floor talking by myself! onto tape. not cd. i love tape. its so raw and accessible(i spelt that wrong) but weirdly after feeling so raw its harder than cd in the end. if you see what i mean. its much more intimate and warm and yet still far away”. Recent solo exhibitions include Hayley Tompkins & Sue Tompkins, Contemporary Art Museum St Louis, USA, 2009, Apple, The Showroom, London, 2007.
