Mark Handforth (b. 1969, Hong Kong, China. Lives in Miami, Florida) Hanforth re-locates everyday objects or images from public spaces, such as lampposts, lovehearts, mopeds, coat hangers, and road signs to gallery and public settings. Often oversized, twisted out of shape and lit with candles or fluorescent tubing. Hanforth elevates the everyday above a state of obscurity recalling the public art of Swiss born Claes Oldenburgh. Recent exhibitions include Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA), Chicago; Gavin Brown’s Enterprise, New York; Galerie Almine Rech, Paris; Plaz, Galerie Eva Presenhuber/Tessinerplatz, Zurich; and The Modern Institute, Glasgow.
