Join artist Japhet Dinganga at Coventry Central Library for a workshop exploring the relationship between people, space, and the objects that connect us.

In this workshop, we’ll dive into how we shape and are shaped by the materials around us—whether through (club) culture, or community.

You are invited to bring a small hand-held reference image, ticket, object, article that holds personal significance, something that represents a connection to the Library, or community or clubbing. Don't worry if you don't have anything to bring—we'll also provide reference images on the day for people to use during the session. So, feel free to join us either way!

Using the material we gather as a starting point, we will collectively contribute to a growing, shared material record that will evolve throughout the workshop. As we think together, and share stories, we’ll reflect on how these materials resonate with us, the people in the room and the space we occupy together.

This workshop is an opportunity to explore the Library's past, and the intersection of art, culture, and human interaction. Come along to engage, reflect, and create connections through material and memory.

About Japhet

Japhet's practice is influenced by the everyday notion of being and becoming. He is engaged in the observation and depiction of the relationship between man and the materialistic space and is intrigued by the way found objects and materials can conjure a history that shows evidence of humanitarian cultures, habits, and social understanding.

He is interested in making this relevant to the context of the Midlands by creating interventions in the many disused spaces that make up the local landscape, as a way to consider how these spaces could be used better, and be more beneficial for local communities.
