Language conveys meaning and language conveys rhythm and language can be used to draw. This workshop aims to offer a space to consider how text and the poetic can speak in different registers and to explore how this may resonate in your own practice.
You are invited to bring with you a piece of text that you enjoy or holds meaning for you - it could be a poem, song lyric, single word or piece of prose. This is just to start our conversations. You will make something of your own during the workshop.

About Helen
Helen Cammock lives in North Wales. Her interdisciplinary practice spans film, photography, print, text, song and performance, and engages with historical and contemporary narratives around diasporic experience, systems of power, structural inequities, and their repercussions and reverberations.
She was awarded the Max Mara Art Prize for Women in 2017 and was joint recipient of the Turner Prize in 2019. She is represented by Kate MacGarry, London. Cammock has exhibited and performed worldwide with recent solo shows including Pelicans Dive at Half Light, Kate MacGarry, London, UK (2025), Bass Notes and SiteLines, Amant, Brooklyn, USA (2023), Helen Cammock: I Will Keep My Soul, Art + Practice, Los Angeles, and UNO Gallery, New Orleans, USA (2023) and recent group shows including Artists First: Contemporary Perspectives on Portraiture, National Portrait Gallery, London (2025), Post-Print Triennial, China Academy of Art, Hangzhou, China (2025), and Connecting Thin Black Lines 1985–2025, The ICA, London, UK (2025).
