Big Art Talk 5: Brian Griffiths

6pm – 7pm

Brian Griffiths creates sculptural utopias out of the debris of everyday life. Always using objects and their historical narratives as a starting point for his work, Griffiths discussed his proposal ‘Small Giants’ for the Birmingham Big Art Project as well as previous commissions for the BALTIC, Art on the Underground and Camden Arts Centre.

Brian Griffiths, born in 1968 in Stratford-upon-Avon, lives and works in London. He has had important solo exhibitions at BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, Gateshead (2015); Tramway, Glasgow (2014); Galeria Luisa Strina, São Paulo (2012) and Arnolfini, Bristol (2004). His work has also been shown as part of British Art Show 7, Hayward Touring Exhibition (2011); ‘Nothing is Impossible’, The Mattress Factory Museum, Pittsburgh (2010) and Lustwarande 08 Wanderland, Fundament Foundation, Tilburg (2008).

This was the final Big Art Talk by the five shortlisted artists in the lead up to the selection of the winning commission. The Big Art Talks were hosted by Birmingham Big Art Foundation in partnership with Birmingham City University and Eastside Projects.
