Away Day to Grymsdyke Farm Seminar Tuesday 5 August

ESP members went on an Away Day to a symposium on the role of casting in architecture. Held at Grymsdyke farm, a research facility and architectural workshop based in Buckinghamshire, the day explored the historical uses, technical processes and theoretical implications of casting in different forms and as applied to different materials.

The day comprised of talks by Dr Marjorie Trusted FSA, Senior Curator of Sculpture at the Victoria & Albert Museum, on the history of the Museum's Cast courts, and by artist Florian Roithmayr, on his work with processes of casting and moulding in archeological preservation and in contemporary car alteration techniques. In addition, there was presentations of casting projects by MA architecture students from the University of Waterloo, and from GAD students from the Bartlett School of Architecture, and opportunities to engage with casting methods and materials.
